Canada seal hunt interruped by deadly boat accident

It is not just that animals make the world more scenic or picturesque.
The lives of animals are woven into our very being - closer than our own breathing -
and our souls will suffer when they are gone

The annual Canadian seal hunt was marred Saturday by a boat accident in the ice-covered
Gulf of St. Lawrence that killed members of the boat's crew, officials said.

"There have been fatalities," fisheries department spokesman Michel Plamondon said,
but a precise casualty figure was not available.

Canada set the limit for this year's harvest at 275,000 harp seals,
5,000 more than the previous year.
Some 800 seals were killed Friday, Plamondon said.

Prayers for the families of the dead and prayers that this barbaric custom will end.

  1. Lots and lots of purrayers and headbutts to the beans that have learned the bad news of their loved ones on the boat.
